After the Second World War, The French Republic and the United Kingdom emerged with more to their colonial assets from the axis powers and the carving of Africa and the Middle East. However, the damage that was caused to the economies of these countries after the Second World War meant that their governments could not direct much of their attention to the maintenance to their colonies. It was clear that colonialism was on the decline, both in the east with the fall of the Japanese Empire and the West.
Though the empires of Britain and France all wanted to keep their colonies they had different ways of countries who wanted more autonomy or independence. Britain's approach was a little more conciliatory and consenting tone than, France's was different. The Algerian War of Independence in 1954-62 was another milestone for the fall of colonialism. As you look through the war, you will see that there are some similarities between the Algerian War of Independence and other wars of independence during the time.
